Istanbul cruise port: a night near Galataport before or after your cruise
Cruise ships in Istanbul dock at Galataport in Karaköy, on the far side of the Galata Bridge from Sirkeci. Hotel Marius is three T1 tram stops from the terminal, and the old city — Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, the Grand Bazaar — is on foot from our door. This guide covers the trip between the terminal and the hotel, with and without luggage, and how to use a night before or after your cruise.
Where the ships dock
Galataport's cruise terminal lies beneath the waterfront promenade between Karaköy and Tophane: passport control and customs are underground, and passengers come up directly onto the promenade. Up to three large ships can berth at once, so on busy days allow extra time at the exit. Istanbul Modern, the art museum, stands on the same waterfront.
Between the terminal and Hotel Marius
The T1 tram stops Tophane and Karaköy are on the avenue opposite the terminal; Sirkeci is three stops from Tophane in the direction of Bağcılar, a ride of a few minutes, and the hotel is about 50 m from the stop. On foot, across the Galata Bridge, it takes roughly 14 to 20 minutes at a brisk pace depending on the gate — pleasant without bags, tiring with suitcases, and the tram gets crowded. With luggage, a taxi from the rank at the terminal or a private transfer is easier: the hotel arranges one directly — message the front desk on WhatsApp at +90 530 333 51 61 with your ship and arrival time.
The night before you embark
Arriving a day early takes the risk out of a delayed flight. From Istanbul Airport the M11 metro and Marmaray bring you to Sirkeci, about 50 m from our door, in around 80 minutes. Check-in is from 14:00 and breakfast is included. On embarkation day check-out is until 12:00: leave your bags in the hotel's luggage room, see Hagia Sophia or the Spice Bazaar, then collect them and head to the port. Check your cruise documents for the boarding time.
After you disembark
Ships often arrive early in the morning, long before check-in. Leave your suitcases in our luggage room and start on the old city straight away: from Sirkeci the Spice Bazaar is about 6 minutes on foot, Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern about 8, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar about 10. Early check-in is possible on request, subject to availability, and the front desk is open 24 hours.
Only one day in port?
If your ship stays for a single day, walk from the terminal across the Galata Bridge to the Spice Bazaar and the New Mosque, or take the T1 tram to Sultanahmet for Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern. Watch the all-aboard time and leave a margin for the security check at the terminal.
