The walk from the hotel
The most interesting way is uphill through the old market streets: walk past the Spice Bazaar and climb Mahmutpaşa Yokuşu, a busy street of wholesale shops, to the bazaar's Mahmutpaşa gate. If you would rather not climb, take the T1 tram to the Beyazıt–Kapalıçarşı stop.

Before you go
The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and on religious holidays. It has many gates and some sixty lanes, so note the number of the gate you came in by. Bargaining is normal for carpets, lamps and leather, less so for small items with marked prices. Mornings are quieter than afternoons.
