Walking time
about 11 minutes

The walk from the hotel

Follow the T1 tram line uphill past Gülhane to Sultanahmet and cross the square towards the Hippodrome; the museum is on its western side, facing the Blue Mosque, in the stone İbrahim Pasha Palace.

Before you go

The palace was built in 1524 for İbrahim Pasha, grand vizier to Süleyman the Magnificent; the museum moved here in 1983. It is best known for its carpets — some of the finest from the Islamic world — as well as calligraphy, Qur'an manuscripts and an ethnographic section on nomad life. It is quieter than the big sights around it and a good choice for a rainy afternoon; check opening days and hours before you go.
