Staying in Istanbul for treatment: what to ask a hotel, and where we fit

An honest guide for patients travelling to Istanbul: how far the clinics are from the old city, what to ask for when you book, the practical things that matter on recovery days — and the cases where a hotel next to your clinic is the better choice.

First, the honest part about location

Most of Istanbul's clinics and private hospitals are on the European side north of the Golden Horn — Şişli, Nişantaşı, Levent — or across in Ataşehir and Kozyatağı on the Asian side. We are in the old city, which means we are not next door to any of them: expect 35–50 minutes by metro, more by taxi in traffic. If your treatment needs daily visits over a week, a hotel beside the clinic will serve you better and we will say so. What follows is for the other case, which is common: one or two appointments, then days of resting and seeing the city.

Why some patients choose the old city anyway

Recovery days are walking days, and the walking here is flat and short. Hagia Sophia is 8 minutes from our door, Gülhane Park 5, the Spice Bazaar 6 — you can go out for an hour and be back without a taxi or a long stand. Pharmacies are on the same street as the hotel. Evenings are quiet, because Sirkeci is a trading quarter that empties after nine. And the airport trains start 50 m away, which matters on the day you fly home.

What to ask us for when you book

Tell us it is a medical trip and we will hold the right room rather than leave it to chance: a quieter room away from the street side, the accessible room if stairs are a problem, extra pillows, or a lower floor if the lift is a worry. Late check-out and early check-in are possible on request — useful when an appointment falls on an arrival or departure day. Luggage storage before check-in and after check-out is free. If you need a private transfer from the airport rather than the train, we arrange it directly; tell us on WhatsApp what equipment or help you need.

Practical things that matter after a procedure

A pharmacy is a two-minute walk and the larger ones on Ankara Avenue keep late hours; pharmacists in Turkey speak enough English to help and the duty pharmacy rota is posted in every window. There is a laundry on the same streets. Soft, plain food is easy to find here — soup kitchens, rice, yoghurt, börek — rather than only heavy restaurant menus. Rooms have air conditioning and blackout curtains in some types; ask if light or noise will bother you. Breakfast is included and served downstairs, so nobody has to go out in the morning.

Getting to appointments without stress

From Sirkeci station, 50 m from our door: Marmaray to Yenikapı and the M2 metro reaches Şişli, Taksim and Levent with one change; for the Asian side, Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and the M4 covers Kadıköy, Kozyatağı and Ataşehir's line. Trains avoid the traffic that makes taxis unpredictable, and Marmaray stations have lifts. For an appointment where you would rather not walk at all, the front desk books a car door to door — ask the night before and it waits at the entrance.

Companions, and staying longer

Most patients travel with someone. Four of our seven room types take three or four people, and the Connecting Room is two bedrooms joined by a door — useful when one person sleeps badly. Rooms are cleaned daily. For a stay of two or three weeks, tell us at booking: longer stays are easier to plan for and the direct rate has no agency fee on top.

What we do not do

We are a hotel, not a medical provider: we do not arrange clinics, treatments or transfers to specific hospitals, we do not hold medicines, and we cannot give medical advice of any kind. If something goes wrong, the desk calls an ambulance and can direct a taxi to the nearest emergency department — the state emergency number in Turkey is 112. Anything about your treatment belongs with your clinic, not with us.
