The 19th Istanbul Biennial opens on 18 September 2027 and runs until 14 November, curated by Liu Ding and Carol Yinghua Lu. Venues change with each edition and are typically scattered through the historic peninsula, Beyoğlu and Karaköy — often in buildings that are not otherwise open to the public.
Where to stay
Biennial venues cluster on both sides of the Golden Horn, and Sirkeci sits at the hinge: Karaköy and Galata are one tram stop over the bridge, Beyoğlu a few minutes further, and the peninsula venues are on foot. A hotel with its own rooftop art gallery and a Byzantine cistern in the basement is a fitting base for an art trip.
